Firdous Mohammed
Counselling Psychologist and Psychotherapist
Firdous is a UK trained and licensed Counselling Psychologist and Psychotherapist who has been working in various roles in a mental health capacity for 9 years. She is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Education
Firdous studied at the University of Strathclyde (Scotland) for her Bachelors and Post-Graduate Diploma and then went on to achieve her Masters degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy at the Queen Mary University London.
Qualifications & Experience
Her speciality is in the Person-centred approach to Counselling where the focus is on empowering the individual to make the best choices for themselves, increasing self-esteem, an openness to exploring new thoughts and ideas, and a generally healthier mental health change. The focus covers the past, present and future aspirations through exploration in a safe environment where the client and therapist draw on their strong relationship to foster an environment of openness and trust.
She also draws on CBT and other therapies to give the client a combined approach to therapy depending on what the client needs. With the belief that people who are empowered to make their own choices, and to look within themselves for solutions, can lead a healthier lifestyle.
Having begun her journey in mental health support services while working on a dementia ward in a Scottish hospital where she worked with a multi-disciplinary team, Firdous quickly realised that this is where her passion and dedication was. She then went on to specialise as a therapist and has since worked in the Government sector where she has provided counselling services to high functioning working professionals. After this she became more focused on her goal in making mental health more reachable for the underprivileged in the community and worked to provide individual counselling and support services to BME groups, asylum families, people from all different nationalities and cultures and providing support to adolescents in youth organisations and schools.
