Psychological Testing & Assessment Services in Dubai

The central cause of an individual’s difficulty may not always be clear for psychologists. For instance, if an individual faces difficulty in learning, there may be several underlying causes such as a reading problem (dyslexia), attention problems (ADHD), or difficulties in impulse control. Therefore, within mental health services, psychological tests and psychological assessments are often used to evaluate cognitive abilities, behavior, or personality.

Psychological Assessment Services - BE Psychology Center Approach

This process of independent psychological evaluation is designed to offer individuals insight of particular strengths and limitations. Additionally, the tests and assessments allow psychologists to evaluate the nature of the problem and develop a treatment plan.
The purpose of psychological testing or assessments can be similar to medical testing. Where, based on the symptoms of the individual, a test or assessment can be used and the results from this will aid in developing a diagnosis and a treatment plan for every individual’s symptoms and needs.

What Can I Expect From A Psychological Assessment?

There are three types of psychological assessments: clinical interviews, observations, and standard psychological testing.

Standard psychological testing branches out into two areas which are cognitive assessments and non-cognitive assessments. Cognitive assessments entail areas such as intelligence, memory, language, processing speed, attention, and executive functions assessments. Non-cognitive assessments entail areas such as personality, behavioral, and emotional assessments.

We offer assessments such as the WISC-V; an IQ testing measure, WIATT; an Achievement testing measure, and DEKFS; a verbal and nonverbal executive function measure.

In order, to receive a well-rounded assessment the three different types of assessments are incorporated.

The procedure of a psychological assessment goes as follows: Caregivers and clients are present for an initial hour-long clinical interview with one of our psychologists. This is when a thorough neurodevelopmental and recent history is gathered and the psychologist assesses which assessments are needed. Caregivers and clients are provided with their own set of questionnaires to fill out. Caregivers may be asked to share the client’s school details in order to contact the school to provide them with questionnaires that highlight their observations and insight. Another appointment will be scheduled for the assessments. After administration, the psychologist will analyze the results based on their observation, questionnaires reporting, and the assessments. A report will be drawn up and shared with the client and caregivers through a feedback session. The report includes the results and analysis of all the assessments, questionnaires as well as clinical observation, and it will provide the clients’ strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations that allow caregivers, teachers, and clinicians to better support the individual.

Ranging on the needs of the client the appropriate assessments will be administered. Therefore, the assessments may vary from an hour-long to four hours long.

Importance of Psychological Assessments

Psychological tests and psychological assessments are two different tools used in psychological evaluation services. Psychological tests include standardized questionnaires or checklists where every test-taker is evaluated in a similar way. Based on the latest research findings, psychological tests are evaluated and proven effective for measuring a specific trait or disorder. Psychological assessments involve different components such as psychological tests, clinical interview information, school or medical records, observational data, surveys and more. For instance, the information from an assessment can detect if a person has the ability to work within a team, learning disorder, or has a traumatic brain injury. Together, psychological tests and assessments are services that can be used for children, teenagers, adults, and elders with an aim of understanding the individual’s needs to support him/her by developing a diagnosis and a treatment plan.

What are The Risks & Side Effects Associated With Psychological Assessments?

Psychological assessments are valuable tools used to gather information about an individual’s cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. While psychological assessments are generally safe and provide valuable insights, there can be potential risks or side effects to consider:

  • Emotional Discomfort: The assessment process can sometimes bring up emotional discomfort or distress, especially when individuals are asked to discuss or reflect on personal or sensitive issues.
  • Increased Stress or Anxiety: Some individuals may experience heightened stress or anxiety in anticipation of the assessment, particularly if they are worried about the results or are uncertain about the purpose of the assessment.
  • Revealing Sensitive Information: Psychological assessments often involve self-report measures that ask individuals to disclose personal information, including thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This may reveal sensitive or confidential information that individuals may be uncomfortable sharing.
  • Time and Effort: Psychological assessments can be time-consuming and may require a significant commitment of time and effort, particularly for comprehensive evaluations. This can be a drawback for individuals with busy schedules.
  • Limited Scope: Psychological assessments are tools designed to measure specific aspects of an individual’s functioning, and they may not provide a complete picture of a person’s overall mental health or well-being.
  • Cost: Depending on the type of assessment and whether insurance covers it, there can be financial costs associated with psychological assessments, which may be a barrier for some individuals.

It’s important to note that psychological assessments are typically administered by trained and qualified professionals, such as psychologists, who are bound by ethical guidelines to ensure that the assessment process is conducted with sensitivity and respect for the individual’s well-being and privacy. Additionally, the benefits of psychological assessments often include accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and tailored interventions that can significantly improve an individual’s quality of life. Open communication between the individual and the assessor, along with informed consent, is essential to address any concerns and manage potential risks or side effects associated with psychological assessments.
